Television shows evolved from simple, black-and-white programs to highly sophisticated, visually stunning productions. A lot of them push the boundaries of what is possible. But with this evolution comes a new breed of shows that are so outlandish that they capture our imagination and transport us to other worlds.

The shows immerse fans in fantastical worlds filled with impossible creatures, superhuman abilities, and alternate realities. They are created deep in someone’s imagination to encourage creativity and foster deep discussions with others. From supernatural dramas to science fiction epics, some unbelievable shows redefined what we consider entertainment.

10 Probably Won’t Get Lost In Space

lost in space

Lost in Space follows a family stranded on a distant planet, facing dangerous alien creatures and trying to find a way back to Earth with their friendly robot companion. Space travel and finding other life forms in the universe are real possibilities. But a family stranded on a hostile planet and surviving are highly unlikely.

The show’s depiction of advanced technology, such as robot companions, and the idea of a family chosen to colonize a new planet is also quite far-fetched. The show also involves a lot of action and adventure elements, which are highly unlikely in real-life space travel.

9 Land Of The Lost Is Not Likely

The show featuring a family transported to a strange, prehistoric world filled with dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures is Land of the Lost. Time travel and alternate dimensions are popular themes, but a family transported to such a world and surviving is highly unlikely.

The show also involves many fantasy elements like dinosaurs and other magical creatures not supported by science. However, the exploration of time travel and alternate dimensions through the lens of a family’s adventure made it a beloved classic among science-fiction fans.

8 Eons Away From A Working Stargate

The Stargate franchise tells of a secret military organization using ancient alien technology to travel to other planets through a wormhole. Even though some Stargate shows aged poorly, the idea of intergalactic travel and ancient civilizations is a popular science fiction theme.

Unless you travel down internet rabbit holes, the chance of a secret military organization having access to such technology is low. Moreover, the idea of a covert military organization having access to such advanced technology and the concept of other intelligent life forms existing in the universe is quite extraordinary.

7 A Hard Time Altering Consciousness In Altered Carbon

Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs walking in the market - Altered Carbon

In a future where human consciousness can be stored on a chip and transferred between bodies, Altered Carbon essentially makes immortality possible. The idea of human consciousness and the possibility of immortality is popular in science fiction.

Such technology existing in the near future doesn’t appear too realistic, but how would people know with their consciousness altered? The show also involves a lot of complex science fiction elements, including mind uploading and virtual realities that are not yet possible in the current state of technology.

6 Re-Writing The History Of The Man In The High Castle

John Smith in The Man in the High Castle

In an alternate reality, the Axis powers won World War II and now control the United States. Although The Man in the High Castle is a terrifying look at different outcomes of real-world events. While alternate realities and timelines are fascinating, a different aftermath of World War II is impossible.

The show also involves a lot of historical fiction elements, as it imagines an alternate history of the world which is quite impossible to happen. Quantum physics and entertainment push the idea that humans are capable of anything, but authoritarian governments never last.

5 Snowpiercer Is Off The Rails

Survivors aboard the train in Snowpiercer TV show

Based on acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho’s cult classic, Snowpiercer takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the remaining human population lives on a train that endlessly circles the globe. The idea of a post-apocalyptic world has increasingly taken over the setting of many entertainment projects.

But a train as the only means of survival won’t work on a planet’s temperature experiencing -120 °C in the Yukon. Set in a beautiful environment, Snowpiercer‘s CGI is also unrealistic. The highly advanced train that can sustain human life for an indefinite period and the idea of a society living in a train for a long time is unbelievably fun to watch.

4 Through The Looking Glass In Black Mirror

The anthology series Black Mirror tells stories of a wide range of near-future scenarios that explore the darker aspects of technology and its impact on society. The show delves into potential future technologies. Most of the short stories’ plot points are unlikely to happen after the credits roll.

They often involve dystopian elements, depicting a far-out world. The technology portrayed in the show and the nature of the scenarios are highly speculative. But Black Mirror manages to spark thought-provoking discussions about the potential consequences of advancing technology.

3 A Quantum Leap In Logic & Tech

One of the greatest science-fiction shows of all time, Quantum Leap, follows a scientist stuck in a time-traveling quantum computer. Scott Bakula’s character Sam Beckett jumps into the bodies of different people in history to correct past mistakes with the help of Al, played by Dean Stockwell.

The concept of physically entering different points in history and a quantum computer that can facilitate this time travel is as far-fetched as it gets. Additionally, the show’s depiction of the main character being able to change the course of history through these time leaps is also highly unlikely.

2 Re-Discovering The Past In La Brea

La Brea S2 E3

After a sinkhole opens at the La Brea Tarpits in Los Angeles and releases prehistoric creatures into modern-day society, a group must come together to survive. The realistic depictions of prehistoric animals in the modern day entered people’s imaginations with Jurassic Park, and 3D technology hasn’t improved much.

The group, consisting of scientists, soldiers, and civilians, must find a way to communicate with the creatures and learn to coexist with them in the unfamiliar environment. The stakes are high in La Brea‘s implausible story as the fate of humans and animals hangs in the balance.

1 Surviving Humans & The Walking Dead

The world is overwhelmed with zombies in The Walking Dead, and a group of survivors attempts to survive in this new reality. Zombie outbreaks are over-used television and film topics, but the likelihood of a global outbreak of reanimated corpses is nearly nil.

The Walking Dead focuses on humanity’s relationship with the dead and serves as more of a background plot point. Humans as the real threat in a zombie-infested world are the most believable part of the show. No matter how controversial The Walking Dead became over the last decade, post-apocalyptic and horror elements seem not likely to happen in real life.
