In this series, Wednesday is up to her destructive ways as she protects her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) from bullies at school. Now, the Addamses have been integrated into society for a while. They have been at a regular middle school, and Wednesday hasn’t been the most approachable.
By defending her brother, she gets expelled and is sent to Nevermore Academy. The catalyst for Wednesday’s story is her connection with her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). She doesn’t want to be like her at all, and now by going to the school she graduated from, she wants nothing to do with her legacy.
This series explores Wednesday’s individuality and tough exterior. As each episode passes, she becomes softer because she begins caring for her friends around her. She does understand that it’s important for her to make friends, but she remains guarded.
Through the mind of Tim Burton comes an obscure little show that could only have worked with him behind the camera. The series on this list all tap into the supernatural and have incredible world-building throughout. From monsters of the week to solving mysteries and also exploring one’s individuality, they all make for compelling shows.

The Sandman (2022)
Neil Gaiman’s work can be dense at times, but the world-building is spectacular. Netflix worked with such a complex piece of his and turned it into one of the best fantasy shows of the year. Even though it sounds straightforward, there are many characters introduced that affect Dream.

Fresh off The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Jonathan Majors became a star overnight in Lovecraft Country. Majors and Jurnee Smollett had excellent chemistry and explored the world Matt Ruff created. The show could have only been produced on HBO as there are some pretty graphic moments with the creatures in the world. If you’re a horror fan, you’ll definitely enjoy this.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
The monster of the week episodes started with Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and changed television. Any supernatural series does go back to the blueprint of this show. The main difference from her ancestors is that she has a group of friends that support her through her endeavors.
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
Jim Carrey was the first one to take on Lemony Snickett and then Neil Patrick Harris took on the role in this series.
