On offer this month: Stories that foreground Black lives from a historical perspective.

Netflix
With so many content options at the ready, audiences are understandably overwhelmed.
IndieWire is here to help relieve you of some of the burden with monthly recommendations of films and television series to watch. For this feature, with Black History Month upon us, stories that foreground Black lives in a serial format are in focus. It’s a selection of eight shows that will be streaming on Netflix in February, all from the last decade, stretching multiple continents, with a historical element to them. From a thoroughly appetizing history of African American cuisine as American history (“High on the Hog”) to tragic stories of racial injustice (“Kalief Browder,” “When They See Us”), and a groundbreaking series that foregrounds the lives of transgender women (“Pose”), there’s something here to suit every palate.
There are obviously several other series available, so this is absolutely not meant to be an exhaustive list of recommendations, just a few favorites.
