The “Milk” writer, who was last spotted at public events in July, did not disclose the details of his injury but said the road to recovery will be a long one.
Lance Black took to Instagram on Monday to share a health update with his fans and followers.
“A month ago I sustained a serious head injury that put me out of commission. Showing little improvement, my doctors ordered me to shut off my brain in hopes of it healing.
“This has been a challenging, frightening time for a creative type who depends on what’s in his skull to work, care and love. And now I understand the road back will be long,” he wrote.
Lance Black, also the creator of FX’s recently released limited series “Under the Banner of Heaven” starring the Emmy-nominated Andrew Garfield, said this week his husband, Olympic diver Tom Daly took him to the Greek Islands to make him “shut off”.
“I can already feel this trip is a step in the right direction, and I finally feel safe sharing a bit again. Thank you for all of your love and patience. More to come. Promise,” he said as he shared their pictures from the vacation.
According to entertainment website The Hollywood Reporter, Lance Black also wrote and produced the upcoming George C Wolfe-directed film “Rustin” about the life of gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin.
